Covid is on the loose. Leaving nothing but chaos in it's wake.
We are being forced to "shelter in place", which means more family time.
Social restrictions prevent us from living how we used to.
Now more than ever we are using our devices for more than just work.
Our devices are now our portal to the outside world. Staying connected
is more important than ever.
That's why, when your laptop gets damaged, you need to get it back as
quickly as possible. I understand this and empathize with you. I too,
am working from home. I will do everything in my power to swiftly
correct any problems you are experiencing so you may get back to work.
A common problem with laptops is their hinges. It seems like
manufacturers design these high stress points to fail. On the surface,
the hinges appear to be heavy duty and for the most part, they are.
But then they go and attach the hinge to a brittle plastic mount point.
This is always where the hinge fails.
The thin LCD panel on laptops is very fragile. One hit in the right
spot and your display is shattered. Without an external monitor, you
are dead in the water. Procedures vary from device to device. Some are
easy to repair. Others involve using heat to soften the adhesive
holding the display together.
I've got specialized tools used for the difficult laptop display
repairs. I also have experience performing repairs on some of the most
difficult devices. It is becoming harder to do these repairs thanks to
OEM's coming up with new ways to prevent techs from accessing parts.
Apple may be the worst when it comes to repairing their devices. Their
parts are marked up to the point of having the device repaired would
cost more than a brand new device.
If you do manage to get the parts, then you have to deal with the booby
traps they incorporate into their devices. In some cases, your
device will not function if it doesn't recognize OEM parts.
I'm not mad at Apple for preventing third parties from repairing their
devices. I get it. Asset protection. What does upset me is the fact
that they don't even repair their devices. Most of the time, they will
simply replace a damaged device rather than repair it.
It's very wasteful and a shame to the environment.
